Fairchild Semiconductor said today that President and Chief Executive Officer Mark S. Thompson has also been named chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Ronald W. Shelly has been designated as the South Portland company’s lead independent director on the board.

Fairchild announced the changes following the re-election of directors at its annual stockholders’ meeting. Fairchild board members Charles P. Carinalli, Robert F. Friel, Thomas L. Magnanti, Kevin J. McGarity and Bryan R. Roub, along with Shelly and Thompson, were re-elected for one-year terms. The company also announced that Robin G. Goodwin has been named executive vice president, manufacturing and supply chain, and Laurenz Schmidt, executive vice president, has been named Fairchild’s chief technology officer.

Fairchild, a global producer of microchips and components for electronic devices, employs 9,000 workers worldwide, including roughly 1,025 at the headquarters building and fabrication facility, both in South Portland. It is the world’s largest producer of power-related semiconductors.
