AUGUSTA — Police took an East Pittston man into custody Monday afternoon after a brief vehicle chase, Augusta police Sgt. Chris Massey said.

Steven Lathrop, 18, allegedly refused to pull over for an officer on Western Avenue Monday afternoon. He led the officer down a side street, around an apartment building and back onto Western Avenue, Massey said.

Lathrop pulled aside soon after returning to Western Avenue after leading the officer astray for less than a mile, Massey said.

He was arrested on a charge of violating a condition of release and summonsed on charges of failing to stop for an officer, driving to endanger and possessing alcohol as a minor.
