A Springvale man escaped injury today when the car he was driving crashed through the wall of Landry’s Furniture Barn in Sanford around 2 p.m..
Urban Johnson, 87, had pulled his Honda Accord into a parking spot at the Furniture Barn and was apparently going to back out of the slot, but went forward instead, according to Sanford Police Major Gordon Littlefield.
Johnson was uninjured and no one in the store, located on Breary Avenue, was hurt. The front end of the car broke through the wall, knocked a bookshelf askew and was left dangling over part of the showroom.
The accident caused about $2,500 damage to the car and about $5,000 to $10,000 damage to the building, Littlefield estimated.
