SKOWHEGAN — Management staff at the town’s solid waste and recycling facility won top honors in equipment competition at the 15th Annual Recycling & Solid Waste Conference in Rockport April 28.
At a Recyclathon Safety Rodeo challenge during the conference, they competed against equipment operators from around the state, according to supervisor Randall Gray.
In the forklift competition, Clyde Merrill won first place and Al White won second place. James Travers won first place in the skid steer competition.
Gray said the team also attended a variety of learning sessions such as Universal Waste Certification and Maine Department of Environment Protection's latest training for the proper handling of construction and demolition debris, collection, sorting and disposal of material.
“The conference was a successful learning and team-building opportunity,” Gray said in a prepared report for selectmen.
