Cumberland legislator to seek second term

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report May 14, 2008 01:06 PM

State Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess, a Cumberland Republican, has announced that she will seek a second term in the Legislature on Nov. 4.

Strang Burgess, the CEO of Burgess Advertising and Marketing in Portland, represents District 108, which includes Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Long island and part of North Yarmouth.

In a news release, Strang Burgess said she is seeking reelection because she believes it is "imperative that Augusta hear from Maine small business owners."

Strang Burgess successfully championed a bill in the Legislature creating a specialty license plate to raise money for breast-cancer services and programs in Maine.

She will face Democrat Brita Bonechi in the general election in November. Both candidates are unopposed for their respective party nominations in the June 10 primary election.
