Authorities charged a Wells woman today with two counts of manslaughter and aggravated drunk driving in connection with the April 28 crash in which she allegedly drove the wrong way on the Maine Turnpike.
Donna Bartlett, 38, of Wells, allegedly was driving her SUV south in the northbound lanes when her car and a Lincoln Town Car driven by James McLaughlin collided.
McLaughlin, 65, of Gorham, was killed in the crash, along with one of his passengers, 15-year-old Cooper Campbell of Portland.
Campbell’s father, Steve Campbell, was badly injured in the crash but survived.
State police say they smelled alcohol on Bartlett’s breath, and a blood test was given at Maine Medical Center. Police did not reveal the results of the blood test but said it showed her blood alcohol content was over .08, the legal limit to drive in Maine.
Bartlett’s bail was set at $10,000 cash, and if released she is not allowed to possess or use alcohol or drugs, drive a car and must subject to random searches.
Authorities have said Bartlett got on the turnpike at the Wells interchange, five miles north of the crash site in Ogunquit, by somehow going the wrong way on the northbound exit ramp. The collision happened shortly after 11 p.m.
