Crowds expected for Cabela's opening

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report May 15, 2008 11:17 AM

SCARBOROUGH - Outdoor outfitter Cabela's opens to the public today at 5 p.m.

At 4:30 a.m. this morning, the place buzzed with employees putting the final touches on a store that is also part museum, part amusement park, part fudge shop.

The ribbon is cut on the store this afternoon at 4:45 after speeches from the governor and a welcome by Joe Castiglione, the popular Red Sox broadcaster.

The store opens for shopping and viewing at 5 p.m. Officials are already expecting to shuttle people from off-site parking lots, because they are certain the huge one surrounding the store won't be enough.
