AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci has proclaimed May 21 as Employee Health & Fitness Day.
The Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Activity encourages Maine employers to join others across the country in celebrating this national health observance, created by the National Association for Health and Fitness, to promote the benefits of physical activity for individuals through their work site health promotion activities.
This year’s theme is “Employee Fitness – It Makes a Difference!”
Avron Abraham, board president of the national association, said the day is dedicated to inspiring private, public and non-profit employers to help improve the health of their workforce.
Employers can participate in this event by coordinating activities for their employees with a bike to work day, chair aerobics, wellness walks, an office stretch class, creating a fitness trail or nutritional lunch n’ learn.
