WASHINGTON — The Gibbs Free Library, established in 1915, is a recipient of this year’s Dirigo Awards for Nonprofit Excellence.
This year’s small nonprofit award went to Gibbs Library; an organization that proved size doesn’t matter. Despite not having a single paid employee or any funding from the town of Washington, Gibbs library has an incredible Web site, diverse programming, and excellent transparency, said Scott Schnapp, executive director of the Maine Association of Nonprofits.
“The three award winners represent excellent examples of organization that are adapting to the challenging funding environment currently facing nonprofits,” said Schnapp. “They utilize innovation and ingenuity to achieve a greater mission impact.”
The association honored three Maine organizations as leaders in nonprofit excellence at their annual conference on May 8.
The Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Lewiston and Tedford Housing in Brunswick as well as the library each received $3,000. To find out more about the annual award for nonprofit excellence at www.nonprofitmaine.org.
