Gardiner gets digital mapping

By Kennebec Journal Staff report May 15, 2008 12:58 PM

GARDINER — Kappa Mapping of Bangor recently updated the city’s tax-parcel maps and converted them to digital format so city staff can use them with geographic information system (GIS) software.

The city’s existing maps had not been updated for several years. No digital data was available for city staff to use in assessing, planning, code enforcement, and infrastructure management, according to Susan Trehy of Kappa.

Residents will still be able to use traditional paper maps as a reference, but digital ones will allow the city to use the data in new ways not possible with traditional paper maps, according to Trehy.
