A Dayton man was charged today with operating under the influence and failure to report an accident after a hit-and-run with a Newfield house, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Curran, 52, allegedly drove his truck into a house at the corner of Water and Bridge streets at about 11 a.m. today, then drove off and switched cars.

A neighbor called in the accident to the sheriff's office, and reported the driver was in a green pickup with two ATVs in the back. When deputies arrived, another person said the driver had switched cars and was driving a Dodge pickup with hay in the back.

Deputies found Curran driving the second truck nearby and arrested him. His breath alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, according to the sheriff’s office. The Dodge pickup belonged to a friend of Curran who lives in the area, but the friend did not know Curran had taken the vehicle, officials said.

Officials say the house, which was vacant when hit, had considerable damage estimated in the thousands of dollars. The truck is a total loss with severe front-end damage.
