More than 200 inmates from the Maine State Prison in Warren applied Wednesday to register to vote during a voter education and registration drive sponsored by the NAACP.
Deputy Warden Leida Dardis said representatives from the Democratic, Republican and Green parties met with inmates during morning and afternoon informational sessions.
Prisoners filled out application forms to register to vote in the town where they last lived. Those applications will be reviewed by the Secretary of State's Office and municipal clerks before an inmate may cast an absentee ballot.
Maine is one of only two states that allow prisoners to cast ballots.
