Motorists are advised that there will be several crews working simultaneously over the Memorial Day weekend on Interstate 295 southbound in the Topsham/Brunswick vicinity.
Drivers should be alert to changing traffic patterns, slow-moving construction vehicles and construction personnel.
Speed limits will be reduced to 55 miles per hour for the safety of the public, as well as workers.
State Police will be on hand to enforce speed limits and fines are doubled for violations in the work zone. The public is asked to curtail all cell phone use and concentrate on travel through this work zone.
Work will begin on the Exit 31A and B off-ramps and the Exit 31 on-ramp in Topsham, as well as on the Exit 28 off-ramp, which connects to Route 1 in Brunswick. Because of the traffic pattern, motorists must drive with extreme caution as they exit and enter the highway. In particular, a stop sign will be utilized on the Exit 31 on-ramp to help ensure safety.
Those heading south on Monday may want to allow extra time, travel during off-peak hours or chose an alternate route.
