AUGUSTA — Smoke from a malfunctioning water pump motor set off the fire alarms at the Cross State Office Building on Sewall Street about 3 p.m. today.

State workers evacuated the building for about 15 minutes before being allowed back in the building. The Augusta Fire Department sent several trucks to the scene.
