New Farmington Guide to Historic Downtown

FARMINGTON - A new guide to Farmington is out that makes the downtown easier to navigate.

The Farmington Downtown Business and Professional Association’s new guide to the downtown was created to engage visitors and residents alike in active exploration and interaction with the downtown’s recreational, cultural and commercial opportunities.

It is also intended to promote the new walking tour that highlights stories and themes from the town’s history.

Local talent was used to design, develop, and print the guide. It includes an aerial map, a 3-dimensional model of the downtown and a detailed guide of services, things to do, stores, and more.

The guide uses the newest technology while displaying historical integrity, said association spokesman Michael Mansir.

“This is a prime example of a successful the collaboration of local businesses. The Maine Community Foundation, the Farmington Downtown Business and Professional Association and the town of Farmington provided the funding and several businesses contributed hours of time and energy in the guide’s development,” he said.

The informational kiosks that will highlight historical sites such as Chester Greenwood’s earmuff factory on Front Street will start to be installed in June, said Town Manager Richard Davis.

Alison Hagerstrom, the executive director of Greater Franklin Development Corporation who has spearheaded the project, said the collaboration of local businesses and organizations working together promotes Farmington’s vibrant downtown to visitors and residents.

The map will be available at tourist kiosks around the state and at downtown businesses, local lodgings and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce office.
