Sanford and area fire departments were on scene of brush fire about three miles northwest of downtown Sanford on Monday afternoon. The Hanson Ridge fire has burned about 3 acres, according to Maine Forest Service spokesman Calvin Miller.

The fire was reported at 2:30 p.m., and by 5:30 it was contained but not extinguished, Miller said. The Maine Forest Service performed 40 helicopter "bucket drops" with a 240-gallon bucket to get the blaze under control, Miller said.
