11:39 a.m.:WESTBROOK — A man was taken to Maine Medical Center on Thursday after his car went off the road and landed upside down in a brook, according to the fire department.
The man, whose name was not immediately available, hit two other cars before his Toyota sedan went off an embankment off Brook Road and landed in Mill Brook around 7:51 a.m., according to Fire Chief Gary Littlefield. The man did not appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.
An off-duty firefighter, Matt Lamontagne, and a passer-by, Barry Kenney, forced the Toyota’s door and pulled the man out of the car, which was in at least 4 feet of water, Littlefield said.
No one else was injured and the other vehicles did not sustain heavy damage, Littlefield said.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. Littlefield said police would be investigating.
Part of Brook Road was closed until about 10 a.m.
