More than 500 Maine law enforcement personnel today kicked off the 23rd annual Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maine.
The annual relay began today in South Berwick, and will kick off in Kittery, Madawaska and Fort Kent on Wednesday. Officers run relay segments varying in length from three miles to 70 miles.
The event, which occurs in all 50 states, is a fundraiser for Special Olympics. Last year, it raised more than $120,000 for Special Olympics Maine.
The Special Olympics Maine summer games will begin Friday at the University of Maine in Orono.
