Oxford Homes plant to get new owner

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report June 09, 2008 11:43 AM

Excel Homes of Camp Hill, Pa., has announced plans to purchase the assets of the former Oxford Homes modular home manufacturer in Oxford and resume production.

The Oxford Homes purchase will allow Excel Homes to expand its presence in New England and grow its overall footprint, which spans from Maine to Georgia, the company said.

After receiving new financial backing in 2007, Oxford Homes was unable to survive the current downturn in the housing market. In April, the company laid off employees and halted production.

The former Oxford Homes site includes a 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility capable of producing single-family, multi-family and commercial building modules. The facility also features office and warehouse space.

“With this acquisition, we are better able to serve the growing number of modular builders in New England,” said Jay Kedia, Excel Homes’ vice president of business development. “Maine is a leader in the modular industry. With a stronger local presence, we can provide more assurance and stability for modular builders in the region."
