Bridgton man could face federal charges

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report June 10, 2008 12:12 PM

A criminal complaint against a Bridgton man was dropped this morning by the state Attorney General’s Office.

But Marc Lev, 47, might not be off the hook for allegedly obtaining and trafficking prescription drugs in Oxford and Cumberland counties.

The state case could not go forward because the investigation, which was started by the Bridgton Police Department, has been taken over by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, said Assistant Attorney General Leanne Sutton.

That means Lev could face charges in federal court, said attorney Justin Leary, who represented Lev at Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland.

Lev was initially charged by Bridgton police with illegally acquiring prescription drugs, aggravated drug trafficking, aggravated forgery and impersonating a public servant.

Police said Lev had stockpiled thousands of dollars worth of drugs in the home he shares with his mother, after visiting multiple doctors to obtain multiple prescriptions over the course of several months. The scheme is known as “doctor shopping.”
