Strong storm targets Readfield, Winthrop

Strong thunderstorms will affect Androscoggin and Kennebec counties through 7:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

At 6:18 p.m., radar indicated a cluster of strong thunderstorms centered 11 miles northwest of Turner, moving east at 35 mph. This cluster of strong thunderstorms will affect areas in and around Turner... Leeds, Greene, Winthrop, Wayne, Readfield, Monmouth, Fayette, Sidney and Manchester through 7:15, the weather sevice said in a special weather advisory.

Hail up to a half-inch in diameter, heavy downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds to 45 mph can be expected. Conditions could lead to power outages in the watch area.
