Two incumbents – Carol Waig and John MacKinnon – each won a second term in the Town Council races Tuesday.

Waig, a staff development specialist at the Maine Correctional Center, won re-election to the at-large seat with 1,156 votes. She fended off challenges from Lane Hiltunen, a U.S. Army retiree who had 792 votes, and Ann Rich, a former School Committee member who had 374 votes.

In the East District race, MacKinnon, a regulatory specialist for a wastewater and stormwater equipment supplier, got 1,078 votes. He defeated former Councilor Willard Blanchard, a social worker, and Michael Wakefield, a landscape foreman. Willard had 899 votes and Wakefield had 321.

Infrastructure needs, economic development and the effectiveness of the Town Council were some of the issues in the election.
