WATERVILLE — Lightning strikes left more than 3,200 homes in the dark following a Tuesday evening thunderstorm.
Farmington, with 2,250 outages, was hardest-hit. Augusta had 200 outages; Skowhegan, 475, a Central Maine Power spokesman said.
The storm started around 6 p.m. and scanner traffic indicated multiple lightning strikes, including one that started a transformer fire. The CMP spokesman was unable to confirm the transformer fire.
Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a 20-percent chance of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will reach a high of 81 degrees and cool off to 53 later in the evening.
