ELECTIONS: $21M SAD 11 budget wins

Voters in School Administrative District 11 have agreed to uphold a school budget that is nearly $200,000 more than requested by the school board.

The 120 residents who attended a May 27 budget meeting restored $195,000 to the school district budget. Voters added $100,000 for fuel costs plus another $95,000 intended by voters to restore two elementary school guidance counselors’ jobs.

Proposed expenditures for 2008-09 were $97,915 less than the previous year, before the $195,000 was added back in at the May 27 meeting.

The district’s budget totals nearly $21 million funds education in Gardiner, West Gardiner, Randolph and Pittston.

Pittston residents validated the school budget by a vote of 214-128. In Gardiner, the tally was 506-416. West Gardiner passed the budget 275 to 164. Randolph voters approved the plan 190 to 101. Results are unofficial.
