Island voters on Tuesday evening resoundingly ratified the 2008-2009 school budget, with a vote of 138 to 14.
Voters at the annual town meeting on Saturday had approved the new school budget of $901,000, which is about $15,000 less than the current budget.
However, a new state law says school budgets must be validated at the polls.
The total town budget – which includes the school and municipal budget – totals $2,677,000, according to Town Administrator Scott Seaver. The budget is up $10,700 from the current year’s budget, he said.
The current rate of $20.49 per $1,000 of valuation is not expected to increase, Seaver said.
