ELECTIONS: Veteran Litchfield selectwoman upset

LITCHFIELD — Muriel Bonin lost her bid for a fourth term on the board of selectmen Tuesday.

She was defeated by Kevin Doyle in a three-way race.

Doyle received 243 votes, Bonin, 170, and Orville "Dean" Shelton, 27.

Three years ago Bonin, 79, who has held a number of posts in the town, defeated a challenger by a margin of more than 3 to 1. She previously spent 36 years on the school board. Bonin spent 31 years as executive secretary to the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs.

Doyle, who has lived in Litchfield for more than 20 years, ran for selectman last year, losing in a head-to-head contest with Glen Ridley.

Doyle, 42, is a sales representative for TENCO, a New England-based firm that supplies equipment for municipalities for snow plowing, sweeping, mowing..

He is expected to be sworn into office in July.
