SKOWHEGAN — Downed trees and power lines from Tuesday evening's storm kept firefighters in Somerset County busy.

New Portland firefighters four times extinguished fires started by trees falling on power lines. Shortly after attending to downed lines on New Portland Hill Road and School Street at around 6, they attended to another wire fire on George E. Cole Road, and then on Katie Crotch Road. Another tree was reported down on Long Falls Dam Road.

Callers to the Somerset Communications Center also reported wires or trees down in Highland Plantation, Madison, Anson, Industry, Bingham, Cornville, Starks, Lexington Plantation and Skowhegan.
