BRUNSWICK - The five communities that belong to the Lower Kennebec River Regional School Unit approved Superintendent William Shuttleworth’s proposed $25.2 million budget Tuesday.

The towns that participated in the School Unit’s first budget validation vote on Tuesday included Arrowsic, Bath, Phippsburg, West Bath and Woolwich.

The final vote was 1,925 in favor and 820 opposed.

Shuttleworth said school officials eliminated two teaching positions, eight educational technician jobs, and one assistant principal post.

The budget represents a 4.62 percent spending increase.
