Susan Wasserott, a human resource specialist for Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, defeated fellow Carl Young, a math teacher at the Hyde School in Bath, for the Republican nomination in Tuesday’s House District 65 race.

Wasserott received 331 votes to Young’s 265 votes. The district encompasses all of Woolwich as well as parts of Bath, Brunswick, West Bath and Topsham.

Wasserott hosts and creates “In My Backyard,” an issues-based TV show broadcast on local cable television.

The Woolwich resident will face Democrat Peter S. Kent, also of Woolwich, in the November election.
