The man who drove the wrong way on Portland's State Street and crashed into an oncoming car on Wednesday could face criminal charges, police said.

Thomas Kammerer of Westbrook drove his Ford Escort wagon down the one-way street around 8:22 a.m. and collided with a Honda Civic driven by Jessie Higgins of Portland.

Kammerer’s passenger, 24-year-old Abdikadir Bare of Portland, suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center. Bare was in satisfactory condition on Thursday morning. Kammerer and Higgins suffered minor injuries, police said.
