Motorcycle strikes deer in Belgrade

By Central Maine Newspapers June 13, 2008 04:01 PM

BELGRADE — A Belgrade man walked away with minor injuries after hitting a deer while riding his motorcycle on Manchester Road.

Conrad Shaw, 37, was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after suffering scrapes and scratches to his legs and hands, said Dep. Toby Blodgett of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision occurred just after 6 a.m. south of the West Road. Shaw was driving his motorcycle south when two deer jumped into the road in front of him.

Shaw missed the first deer, but struck the second. The force of the impact knocked the motorcycle over and sent Shaw skidding on the pavement, Blodgett said.

Speed was not a factor in the crash, he said.
