AUGUSTA—Two people were taken to area hospitals after a motorcycle struck a car on Leighton Road Friday morning.
The driver of the motorcycle, David Ellis, 62, of Hallowell, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with a possible broken pelvis and internal injuries, said Sgt. Mike Small of the Augusta Police Department.
Marlee Poulin, 55, of Augusta, who was driving the car struck by the motorcycle, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Small said.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 a.m. near Maine Commercial Tire when Poulin, who was driving her 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser south on Leighton Road, went to make a left turn and crossed into the path of Ellis’ northbound motorcycle, Small said.
Ellis, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle on impact, Small said.
Poulin’s vehicle sustained about $2,500 damage, Small said.
Ellis’ 1983 Honda motorcycle was a total loss.
