Sanford police announced today that DNA tests done by the state crime lab confirmed that a logging truck driven by a Porter man was involved in a fatal crash with a bicyclist in late April.

Police said the 2003 Kenworth truck, owned by Robert Libby of Porter and driven by Scott Benvie, also of Porter, was the vehicle that Susan Coy, 43, struck after riding her bicycle through an intersection on April 28.

Police said Benvie was traveling through Sanford hauling a load of logs when Coy ran into the side of the tractor-trailer at the intersection of Route 202 and Cottage and River streets.

Police said Coy, who died at the scene, was operating the bicycle on the wrong side of the street and the bicycle had defective brakes, both contributing factors in the accident.

At the time of the accident, police said the driver was likely unaware the fatal crash had taken place. Police said the owner and driver of the truck had been cooperative and no charges are expected. The final decision on charges will be made by the District Attorney's Office.
