HALLOWELL — Developer Kevin Mattson has filed an application with the Maine Department of Transportation as part of a proposal to restore the former Central Maine Railroad freight shed at Central and Winthrop streets.
Mattson plans to restore and renovate the building for future use as a passenger railroad station and tourist information center, according to a statement from the company.
The total project cost is estimated to be $450,000. Mattson is asking MDOT to help with the project as part of the Transportation Enhancement Program, a federal/municipal match program.
