AUGUSTA — The Augusta Charter Commission meets Thursday to begin reviewing sections of the charter that commissioners have been unable to come to agreement on.
The charter is essentially the city's constitution; the commission — in its in-depth, ongoing review — has the authority to recommend changes to numerous aspects of how the city conducts business.
Commissioners have completed their first read-through of the charter. However as they have reviewed the charter they have set aside numerous potentially controversial items for additional review, so numerous issues remain unresolved.
Commissioners, in their first meeting since a June 5 public hearing, are scheduled to begin their review of those unresolved items.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the council chamber at the Augusta City Center.
