STANDISH — Junior Luke Hammond held Richmond to three hits Wednesday afternoon in leading Rangeley to a 3-0 win in the Western Maine Class D regional championship baseball game.
The Lakers, 11-4, advance to Saturday’s state championship game for the second year in a row. They’ll face Eastern Maine champion Katahdin at 4 p.m. at Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium. Richmond finishes its season at 14-3.
Hammond struggled with his control — he issued seven walks and threw 129 pitches — but bore down when he had to. The left-hander escaped bases loaded jams in the first and third innings, fanning two straight in the third to end the threat.
Hammond also drove in Rangeley’s first two runs with a single. David Raymond and Ben Bliss added two hits each for winners.
