One of Maine’s most well-known child welfare crusaders will be honored in our nation’s capital tomorrow.

Elinor Goldberg, president of the Maine Children’s Alliance, is the recipient of the Florette Angel Memorial Award. She will receive it tomorrow at the Voices for America’s Children forum. The organization is comprised of state child advocacy groups across the U.S.

In a press release, Voices for America’s Children president and chief executive officer, Bill Bentley, praised Goldberg for her “energetic advocacy” and “dynamic leadership”.

“Ellie Goldberg's impact has been felt far beyond the boundaries of Maine,” Bentley said in the release. “She has built a national reputation for her exceptional organization and energetic advocacy on behalf of children.”

Goldberg has served as president of the Maine Children's Alliance since 1994, when it was founded. She has had a hand in establishing a slew of children's programs, including “Start ME Right”, a coalition that uses tobacco settlement funds for child programs and assistance, and the Child Welfare Ombudsman program.
