AUGUSTA – Fourteen school district plans submitted under the sate's reorganization law were approved this week by Education Commissioner Susan A. Gendron.
The 14 units with newly approved plans are:
David Connerty-Marin, spokesman for the Department of Education, said the department has received 90 to 100 submissions for the deadline, including completed plans and letters indicating the status of local efforts.
At least four regional planning committees indicated they will file reorganization plans in the next few weeks, Connerty-Marin said. They are: communities in the Wiscasset, Alna, Chelsea area; Freeport, Pownal and Durham; MSADs 21 (Dixfield), 39 (Buckfield) and 43 (Mexico); and MSAD 9 (Farmington) and MSAD 58 (Kingfield). The island community of Isleboro plans to submit its alternative plan soon.
The department also is reviewing or has requested additional information on another five alternative plans from Augusta, Lisbon, MSAD 57, MSAD 22 and Sanford.
