Sabattus to set special school meeting

SABATTUS — Selectmen will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to set a new series of dates to deal with the school budget which failed at the polls Nov. 10.

The Sabattus School Committee last week approved a new, $6.1 million school budget after adding $20,000 to cover increases in fuel costs.

The new proposed budget means the town will have to raise $296,000 less in local taxes than under the budget for the current year, according to Chris Trenholm, business manager for the school district.

The budget that wins approval at the special town meeting will then go to voters in another referendum, said Michelle Ames, Sabattus school committee member.
