UPDATE: Detectives look for links in burglaries

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report June 25, 2008 03:10 PM

A detective with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is working with State Police to determine whether three teenagers charged with car burglaries in Buxton and Hollis may be responsible for ones in Standish as well.

State police charged 19-year-old Levi Hanson, of Buxton, with theft, burglary from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. A 16-year-old Buxton boy was charged with burglary and violating his probation and a 16-year-old Hollis boy is charged with receiving stolen property. Their names are not being released because of their ages.

Officers recovered fishing gear, hiking equipment and two satellite radios, among other items, from Hanson’s apartment and car, according to the Maine State Police.

A tip led investigators to the three men, state police said. Most items were stolen from unlocked vehicles in the two towns last week.

Cumberland County investigators have been probing a string of 11 car burglaries and a break-in to a storage shed in Standish that occurred Sunday night or Monday morning. Most of the burglaries were in the Pine Tree Estates neighborhood, though some also occurred in the Whites Bridge Road area.

Investigators are checking to see whether any of the items recovered from those arrested by State Police match items taken in the Standish burglaries, said Lt. Don Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
