The U-16 Coastal Thunder boys soccer team will be Maine's lone representative in the semifinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships.

Benjamin Brewster and Martin Carrillo-Saldana scored for Coastal Thunder in a 2-0 win over Beadling in the final game of pool play Sunday at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

Coastal Thunder will face TSF Academy Celtic of New Jersey at 2 p.m. today in a semifinal at Bowdoin.

Coastal Thunder and Maryland’s Freestate Elite ended pool play Sunday with identical 2-0-1 records, each with nine goals for and two goals against. However, Coastal Thunder advanced to the Region I semifinals on the basis of points differential (the difference between the final scores of each game), with six points to Freestate Elite’s five.
