A 17-year-old girl from Maine faces vehicular manslaughter and other charges stemming from a fatal accident in Connecticut last week.

Police in Ridgefield, Conn., said the girl lost control of a sport utility vehicle, crashed through a guardrail and flipped over at about 11:30 p.m. on June 27.

Firefighters had to extricate the passenger, 29-year-old Richard Lynch of South Salem, N.Y., who died of his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital.

The driver is from Lamoine, Maine, but her identity was not released because she is a juvenile. Charges include manslaughter, driving under influence, driving without a license and traveling too fast for conditions.

She is free on $50,000 bail pending a July 18 court appearance.
