The Portland Sea Dogs pitchers watched batter after batter reach base Sunday afternoon. The Reading Phillies recorded 16 hits and 10 walks to beat the Sea Dogs 11-5 at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs got 11 hits and four walks, which made for a long game. The paid attendance was announced at 6,141, but the crowd kept dwindling as the pace of the game slowed. The final out came 4 hours, 6 minutes after the first pitch, which was a Hadlock Field record for a nine-inning game.
Portland starter Kris Johnson (7-4) saw both his four-game winning streak and 23 1/3-inning scoreless streak come to an end.
The Sea Dogs got their runs on a two-run single from Mickey Hall, a two-run home run from Tony Granadillo, and a RBI single by Mark Wagner.
Portland plays the Phillies again Monday at noon at Hadlock. About 800 tickets remain.
