WINTHROP — Residents should see evidence Tuesday that a new, handicapped accessible post office is coming to town.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new U.S. Postal Service building is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at 112 Main St., Winthrop.
Among those attending will be Scott Allarie, postmaster; Cornell Knight, Winthrop town manager, and Bob St. Onge, president of general contractor JARR Management Inc., according to a media advisory from Tom Rizzo of the U.S. Postal Service Public Affairs office.
Town officials and private individuals have sought to get a handicapped-accessible post office for more than 20 years and had filed a complaint over the matter with the U.S. Access Board.
