RANDOLPH — The Randolph Veterans Memorial Committee is closing in on its goal, but still needs $3,000 to establish a new memorial to the community’s war veterans.
Shirley Hanley, committee secretary and treasurer, said the past six to eight months, the committee has raised $17,000 including some large contributions from Goggins IGA, Nathan Tuttle, Peter Prescott and the Gardiner Savings Bank.
To raise the remaining funds needed, the committee is selling memorial blocks and accepting contributions or bereavement donations.
The blocks come in different sizes and will be placed around the memorial. People can have in memory or honor of engraved on the blocks.
“We’ve got quite a few of them sold,” Committee Chairman Peter Hanley said. “We need to sell more, that’s what it amounts to.”
