MARIN COUNTY, Fla. –– An aviator who practiced medicine in Auburn was killed in a plane crash Monday night, according to a Florida newspaper.
The Palm Beach Post this morning reports that a plane belonging to Douglas Pohl, 57, crashed shortly after takeoff at the North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines, Fla., said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen. The lone occupant of the plane was killed, she said. That occupant was confirmed as Pohl by his ex-wife.
Pohl is president of Silver Wings Aviation of Auburn, which provides flight training and other services for pilots out of a former World War II military hangar.
A person who answered the phone there this morning referred all calls to Maurice Roundy, airport general manager, who was not available.
