A murdered Old Orchard Beach man was found with a bag over his head and a bottle of rum forced down his throat, according to the U.S. Marshals office in the Eastern District of New York.
Winston George, 45, also was bound when police discovered his body the morning of June 20 at his home on Smithwheel Road. Those new details were disclosed in a press release issued Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals office in Central Islip, N.Y.
Two New York City men, 44-year-old Jeffery Williams and 47-year-old Rennie Cassimy, have been arrested and charged with the murder. Williams is George's brother-in-law, and Cassimy rented a Brooklyn home owned by George and his wife, Darlene.
Maine State Police officials today declined to confirm the details, and said they were released inadvertently by the U.S. Marshals. Officials were frustrated by the apparent error.
State Police Maj. Dale Lancaster said he would have preferred the information had not been released, because it could jeopardize the ongoing investigation. Detectives use those type of details while interviewing potential witnesses and other sources of information. Those interviews are ongoing in the case of Winston George, Lancaster said.
