Mark Westrum, Sagadahoc County's sheriff for the past 16 years, announced today he will resign his post to become administrator of the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

Westrum's appointment as administrator was e%pected to be confirmed tonight during a meeting of the facility's Jail Authority.

"I think he is made for the job and I think Mark is ready for a change," said Sheridan Bond, chairman of the Jail Authority.

Westrum has been doing double duty, serving as sheriff and acting jail administrator since Leonard Legrande resigned in April.

The county's Republican Party Committee is e%pected to nominate a candidate to replace Westrum on the November ballot. Joel Merry will be the Democratic candidate for sheriff.
