READFIELD -- Members of a committee planning the merger of three area school systems meet tonight to consider the administrative structure of their proposed regional school district.
Representatives from Fayette, Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield, Wayne and Winthrop meet at 6:30 p.m. at Maranacook Community Middle School in Readfield. The three school districts serving those six towns are slated to merge under the state's school-district consolidation law.
Committee members are expected to consider adopting an alternative organizational structure, making use of an amendment to the consolidation law legislators passed in April near the end of their 2008 session.
The alternative structure provision allows merger planners freedom in shaping the district structure. Their plan would still be subject to approval from the Department of Education.
