ALFRED -- A 20-year-old Biddeford man will serve 10 months in jail for his involvement in a string of car burglaries in York County and a brief escape from the York County Jail last December.
Shane Jones was also sentenced Wednesday to two years probation. He was arrested on Dec. 28 in connection with car burglaries over a two-day period in Kennebunk, Biddeford and Saco. Jones was taken to York County Jail, and that same evening, was mistakenly released after pretending to be someone else. Authorities found Jones in Old Orchard Beach early the next morning.
Jones was charged with several counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and theft by unauthorized taking for his involvement with the burglaries. He was also charged with escape, following the jail incident. He pleaded guilty to the charges on July 7.
Jones' mother, Kimberly Jones, is accused of assisting with the car burglaries last December. A trial for Kimberly Jones is scheduled for August.
